How to enter the river with stillness
When life is at full flow, we need to take a little more care of our nervous systems.
Open with the very essence of your being. Find the pause within the breath, the still point between outbreath and inbreath. In that space you are nothing, yet part of everything.
This is the place of wisdom, the vastness where everything is one. You are part of the greater matrix of this life, this planet.
Life seems to be moving very fast for most of us right now. The world feels ever more chaotic around us. And as summer solstice approaches, the energy of the natural world is reaching a high.
Some of us thrive on high energy, fast moving environments and chaos. And some of us need to navigate these times with regular doses of stillness, space and peace.
Our nervous systems can feel ‘fried’ when we’re ‘wired’.
We get anxious.
Panicky.
Easily triggered to anger.
Impatient.
Unfocussed.
Jagged…
Sound familiar?
Although we can’t always control what happens to us, we can choose our response to stressful situations and over-stimulation. Learning how to take care of our nervous systems regularly means we can step into the river of life more fully and joyfully. Taking time to practise a few key techniques to find stillness means we can invite the full flow of what life longs to bring us. It brings safety and sanctuary when we most need it.
Simple, intentional practices really work, even for just a few minutes, such as
Slow walking
Slow dancing
Lowering any lights or closing eyes
Breathwork
Inwardly repeating calming statements
Focusing on a peaceful image
I’ve learnt and practised a whole lot of simple, powerful practices to disrupt racing, stressful thoughts and bring peace and stillness to even the busiest day. If your life is calling you to step up and out with your gifts to the world, yet anxiety, stress or exhaustion holds you back, reach out for support. Together we’ve got this!
